BAY MKH 6561
COMMON NAME: | Propoxycarbazone (new ISO proposed) |
CODE NOS: | BAY MKH 6561 |
TRADE NAMES | Attribut, Olympus |
ORIGINATOR: | Bayer |
OWNER: | Bayer |
PRODUCT SUMMARY:
BAY MKH 6561 is a new post-emergence herbicide
for the control of annual and perennial grass weeds in wheat. The
product is an ALS/AHAS inhibitor from the
sulfonylaminocarbonyltriazolinone family. It is especially
effective against blackgrass, brome, loose silky-bent and common
couchgrass and some broadleaf weeds. In the UK, Bayer recommends
the addition of the adjuvant, Actipron, at 1 litre/ha for
improved shoot uptake.
It will be sold in the US as Olympus and the
EU as Attribut. In the US, Bayer has submitted a reduced risk
rationale to the EPA. MKH 6561 is due for launch in the UK in the
spring season of 2002. MKH 6561 is in development in other
countries for use on rye and triticale.

Fate in soil:
BAY MKH 6561 is rapidly degraded in soil and
does not move to ground water.
Fate in aquatic systems:
BAY MKH 6561 undergoes photolysis in water.
FORMULATION:
Water-dispersible granule (WG): 70% (w/w)
PRIMARY TARGETS:
Alopecurus myosuroides, Apera spica-venti,
Avena fatua, Bromus spp, Elymus repens
CROP USES:
Wheat, rye and triticale
APPLICATION RATES
Cereals: 30-70 g ai/ha
ACTIVITY SUMMARY:
BAY MKH 6561 is taken up by leaves and shoots
and translocated acropetally and basopetally in the xylem and
phloem. The product is systemic, acting through acetolactate
synthase inhibition. Discolouring and necrosis of foliage and
cessation of growth are observed within days of treatment. Its
activity can be enhanced by the addition of adjuvants. BAY MKH
6561 is suitable for mixing with other herbicides for
broad-spectrum control. Trials have shown selectivity in all
varieties of winter wheat from 1995-1999, and excellent control
of couchgrass, a weed difficult to control except with pre-plant
application of glyphoste.
