Journal of Outcomes Research

Aims and scope
This is a relatively new publication, launched in 1998 in response to the advances made in the methodology used for outcomes assessments. The Journal of Outcomes Research specialises in the publication of studies determining the effectiveness of medical treatment. We publish measurements of therapeutic and/or preventative outcomes. Methods employed in the studies commonly involve sets of patients with comparable clinical characteristics and include measurements of mortality, morbidity and health status (including measurements of patient quality-of-life, functional status and satisfaction with health care).

Acceptance criteria
All manuscripts are submitted to at least two external independent referees for rigorous peer review; this includes a statistical review.

Brookwood has introduced a checklist system to ensure that all information pertinent to the trial is included in the study report. The checklist aims to improve uniformity within the journals, and will provide a useful guide for both authors and reviewers. The checklists are also contained within the Instructions for Authors.

Indexing
The Journal is currently indexed/abstracted by EMBASE, International Pharmaceutical Abstracts, CAB Health/CAB Abstracts, Pharm-line, Cochrane Registry, Health Service Abstracts.

In addition, it has been submitted for inclusion in ISI (Current Contents/Journal Citation Reports), NLM (Medline/PubMed), BIOSIS, Derwent Drug File, JICST.

Please contact us for up-to-date information on the indexing status of the journals, as we expect to hear from may services over the course of 2001.

Publication format
Papers are published as individual articles, each bound in a journal cover. The journals are A5 size and can be customised to suit individual requirements, for example encapsulated product monographs or reprints in any language. Each paper is abstracted on the Brookwood website.
